Traditional Mexican Tacos

Ingredients:

For the Meat:

  • 1 pound (450g) of your choice of meat (e.g., beef, pork, chicken, or shredded pork)
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Toppings:

  • 8-10 corn tortillas
  • 1 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (typically Mexican white cheese, such as queso fresco, or cheddar cheese)
  • Lime slices
  • Hot sauce or Mexican salsa

Instructions:

  1. Start by preparing the meat. In a large skillet, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic and sauté until they are soft and translucent.
  2. Add the meat to the skillet and cook until it is browned and fully cooked. Add cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper to taste. Stir well to season the meat.
  3. While the meat is cooking, warm the corn tortillas. You can do this in a hot skillet or directly over the stove flame for a few seconds on each side until they are lightly toasted.
  4. Assemble the tacos: Place a portion of the cooked meat in the center of each tortilla.
  5. Add chopped red onion, fresh cilantro, shredded cheese, and a few drops of lime juice over the meat.
  6. Serve the tacos with hot sauce or Mexican salsa to taste.
  7. Fold the tortillas in half to form a taco and enjoy!

Remember that the beauty of tacos lies in their versatility. You can customize them with your favorite ingredients and flavors, such as guacamole, roasted peppers, and more.

Over time, tacos evolved and became a fundamental part of Mexican cuisine, with a wide variety of fillings and styles, and also spread around the world, becoming a popular dish in many countries, including the United States. Today, tacos are enjoyed worldwide, and there are many regional and creative variations of this delicious dish.
